Engr. Mohammad Abdul Awal, the Founder and Managing Director of The Structural Engineers Ltd., has made significant contributions to the construction and real estate industries in Bangladesh. Born in 1954, he graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from BUET in March 1977 and began his professional journey as an Assistant Engineer at M/S Rana Construction Co. Ltd. Following this, he served as a Project Engineer at M/S Bangladesh Consultant Ltd. (BCL) from January 1978 to September 1981.

Eager to expand his expertise, Mr. Awal worked as a Field Engineer in Baghdad, Iraq, under the esteemed Japanese company New Japan Engineering and Service Corp. Upon his return to Bangladesh in 1982, he founded The Structural Engineers as a proprietary concern in December 1983, which transitioned to a Private Limited company in 1987. Building on 14 years of successful experience in construction, SEL ventured into the real estate sector in 1998 and joined the Real Estate & Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) in 1999.

To enhance his understanding of Total Quality Management, Mr Awal participated in multiple quality management training programs in Japan, facilitated by the Association of Technical Scholarships (AOTS) in 1994, 2000, 2004, and 2017. He furthered his knowledge through a "Training of Trainers" course in Japanese Management organized by the Bangladesh AOTS Alumni Society (BAAS) in 1995 and attended workshops on Critical Path Method, Leadership, and Effective Management in Dhaka in 1997.

Mr. Awal has actively engaged in numerous international conventions, including the World Convention of AOTS Alumni Societies in Japan (1997), the International Convention on Quality Control Circles in Sri Lanka (1998), and various regional and international conferences on Total Quality Management and construction across Asia.

As a Life Member of several prestigious organizations, including the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB), Bangladesh AOTS Alumni Society (BAAS), and the Bangladesh Association of Construction Industries (BACI), Mr Awal has held significant leadership roles. He served as President of the Bangladesh Society for Total Quality Management (BSTQM) and led REHAB as President during the 2006-2007 period, continuing to be a vital member.

In recognition of his contributions, Mr Awal received the prestigious CIP (Commercially Important Person) status from the National Board of Revenue (NBR) in 2012 and has been honoured multiple times with the Tax Card for being one of the top three income tax payees in the engineering category. Additionally, he served as a Syndicate Member at RUET during the 2007-2008 academic year.

Currently, Mr Awal is the President of the Bangladesh Ready Mix Concrete Association (BRMCA) and proudly serves on the Industrial Advisory Panel for several esteemed institutions, including the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST), University of Asia Pacific (UAP), and United International University (UIU). His commitment to the growth and development of the engineering and construction sectors continues to positively impact the industry.

Mr. Awal is not only a distinguished professional but also a dedicated humanitarian, actively contributing to societal welfare. He currently operates few schools, positively impacting the lives of thousands of students. His unwavering commitment to underprivileged and marginalized communities is evident through his initiatives in health, education, nutritious food distribution, clothing distribution, empowerment and other meaningful contributions.

In addition to these efforts, Mr. Awal has taken commendable steps to address the adverse effects of climate change. Through the above-mentioned organization, he has spearheaded emergency response and relief distributions in areas most affected by natural disasters. His remarkable humanitarian spirit and commitment to creating a lasting impact on society set him apart as an inspirational figure.

Born in Dhaka in 1953. Completed School & College education from the Residential Model School & College, Dhaka. Completed B. Sc. Engineering (Chemical) from BUET. in 1977. Worked with Bangladesh Shilpa Bank for about six months. Then joined the Titas Gas Company and worked there from more then four years and left as Executive Engineer in 1982. Then went to Iraq and worked as Maintenance Engineer with the Ministry of Oil & Gas for about a year. Then completed Masters of Engineering (Energy Technology) from the Asian Institute of Technology (Jan. 1983 to Aug. 1984). Then joined the Ministry of Engineering & Mineral Resources, Govt. of Bangladesh as Energy Auditor  (rank of Superintendent Engineer) and worked for about four & half years. Then joined The Structural Engineers Ltd. as Director in 1989. Now, holding the position of the Additional Managing Director (AMD). Participated in various international & local training programs, Workshops, Seminars.

Engr. A.K. M. Abdullah was born on August, 1983. He completed MBA from Brock University,St. Catharines,Ontario,Canada in 2018. He did his B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from The University of Asia Pacific in 2008 and his major was in Structural designing, regarding the resistance of the structure against earthquake. Based on the thesis, a paper was published in the workshop of Bangladesh Earthquake Society. The findings of the thesis contributed in the practical field of structural design in the company. In August of the same year, he joined The Structural Engineers Ltd as Director.
Mr. Abdullah passed his S.S.C. and H.S.C. from Government Laboratory High School & Engineering University School & College, also known as BUET College, in the year 2001 & 2003 respectively. He has attended quality conventions as well as educational conferences in Japan, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Nepal & China.
In 2012, Engr. Abdullah participated in a course titled ‘Leadership in Global Business Management, in Japan, organized by HIDA. Now, He is holding the position of the Deputy Managing Director (DMD).Engr. Abdullah is also the Director of SEL Readymix  & Concrete Products Ltd and SEL NIBASH Hotel, sister concerns of SEL and is the Managing Director of SYNERGY Elevators Ltd.

Arch. Mohammad Abdur Rahman was born in 1990. He has graduated from the Department of Architecture, BRAC University Dhaka in 2014. His thesis was on “Rethinking Urban recreational space through vertical expansion”. Immediately after graduation he has joined “The Structural Engineers Ltd.” as Director in February 2015. In this August 2022, he was given the responsibility of Additional Deputy Managing Director of the company. He is hard working & “Innovation” is the inner core of his professional zeal.
Mr. Rahman passed S.S.C. in 2007 from Government Laboratory High School & H.S.C. from Engineering University School & College in 2009. He has traveled many countries of the world and attended Architects exhibition on building materials held in Malaysia, 2015.

Major General Monirul Islam Akand, NDC, PSC (LPR) was born in Oct, 1967. He has three Master Degrees (MBA/University of South Florida USA, MSS/ Bangladesh University of Professionals, MDS/ National University of Bangladesh). His PHD from SUST is near completion.

Gen Monir served in Bangladesh Army for 36 years & held many important command, staff & instructional appointments. He was the recipient of the prestigious “Sword of Honor” during his commission. He commended infantry companies, battalions & brigade. He did two UN Missions in Bosnia (1996-1997) & Liberia (2003-2004) and worked for Headquarters US CENTCOM, Florida, USA (2010-2012). He is a graduate of National Defense College, Defense service command/staff college BD and War academy of Turkey. He participated in many courses/trainings/seminars at home & abroad. Gen Monir is an adjunct faculty at NSU & BRAC University. He joined SEL as Executive Director in July 2022. He advises/ assists senior Management on leadership, management related matters and overseas HR and IT aspects of SEL.
